Windsor Shakeup and more Dirty Fingers

January 23, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Hey Everyone,

I attended the NO PROROGUE Protest in downtown Windsor today and was introduced to some fine men and women who are very committed to making Windsor and the rest of Canada a better and more democratic place.  I was disappointed that the protest was relatively small, but such is the nature of things; people don’t give enough of a shit about their own democracy to actually utilize it.  Now, don’t get it twisted, you don’t need to attend every protest, or even be overly political.  But if you care about living in a democracy where your basic rights and freedoms exist and are protected, then at least educate yourself on issues.  Apathy is the glove to which evil slips its hand, and apathy is exactly what people like Stephen Harper are hoping for.  For more information on the prorogation, visit www.noprorogue.ca

I have recently made a decision to be more political in general, and for those of you that know me, know that that is going to be hard to do; I’m already pretty political.  However, I feel as though I need to not censor myself as I usually do.  I tend to wait for the right situation to be political, but no more.  I don’t care if I’m playing on a stage in my grandmother’s house, I will be political, I will voice my opinion and I will do my small part to affect change; on and off the stage.  I’m hoping my thesis will help with that.  More on that some other time.

One person in this community who I’ve come to admire is Mr. Paul Chislett.  He was the organizer/MC of the NO PROROGUE protest today and has been an active voice for worker’s rights, peace, and progressive issues for years.  He co-hosts the Windsor Shakeup show on CJAM every Wednesday from noon to 1 and also writes for The Scoop.  Check out his articles in this month’s issues.  We need more people like him in this and other communities around this country.

Also, Derek has posted his second song over on Dirty Fingers.  I like it.  A lot.  You should too.

Finally, I have copies of Outside the Factory Gates now.  If you want one, come get it.

Derek Harrison’s Dirty Fingers

January 11, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Hey everybody,

My good friend and lead musician Derek Harrison has started a new blog called “Dirty Fingers” and although I’ve never seen them fing, he has decided to write/produce/arrange/record one song per week for an entire year.  That’s 52 songs for you math geniuses out there.  He has his first song finished and up for the listening and I suggest you all get over there and give it the auditory attention it deserves.

Also, look for a radio interview on “The Rock” on February 14th.  Details to follow.

That is all.
